The Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu has suggested to the media to allow politicians on their platforms only three months to general elections.

According to him, such a practice, if adhered to, will minimize the rate at which development is politicized in the country.

In the view of the monarch, 3 years and nine months in the tenure of an elected President must be dedicated purely to the development of the country while the last three months could be allotted for politics.

“I have always said that we should only allow the politicians on the various media platforms three months into an election. In that case, they would have just three months to do their politicking so that we can dedicate the majority of the time for the development of our country. So we could pay attention to health care, education, job creation and the general development of this nation,” the Asantehene told the management of the EIB network when they paid a courtesy call on him.

He also challenged the EIB group to continue upholding principles of professionalism in the media industry.

"You broadcast for all of us to know what is happening [but] all you have to do is to report exactly what you hear without embellishing it. I am here for the well-being of the Asanteman and Ghana.

“We all want to ensure peace and development of this country and we can all do that in truth and with a clear conscience...so let’s all come together and ensure that the country moves in the right direction.”
