Amansie Central Assembly earmarks 2.9 billion cedis for education

Jacobu(Ash),Nov.14, GNA - The Amansie Central District Assembly has earmarked 2.9 billion cedis under this year's District Assemblies Common Fund for the development of education infrastructure in the district. Last year, the assembly set aside 1.8 billion cedis representing 40.2 per cent of the assembly's total budgetary allocation from the Fund for the development of education.

Mr Kwame Asamoah-Boateng, District Chief Executive, speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Jacobu, said educational standards in the district was low therefore, the assembly was vigorously pursuing the development of the infrastructure to help uplift the standard. He said classroom blocks would be constructed at Asikasu, Afoako, Tweapease whilst a six-classroom block at Jacobu was being rehabilitated to be used as the District Directorate of Education. Mr Asamoah-Boateng said in addition to the institution of a scholarship scheme for continuing students from the JSS to SSS through the universities, the assembly would spend over 300 million cedis to establish a computer laboratory at the Jacobu Senior Secondary School. The DCE said due to shortage of teachers within the district, some of the youth would be given the necessary training to fill up the vacancies.

"Education is my target. Education is the tool for development and that all should help to promote education in this new district," He said.

Mr Asamoah-Boateng announced that the assembly would institute its best teacher award scheme that would include both teaching and non-teaching staff to motivate and improve educational performance in the area.

On the Capitation grant, the District Chief Executive said the idea had motivated parents to send their children and wards to school. "My tour to the communities has revealed that because of the grant, parents are motivated to send their children to school," Mr Asamoah-Boateng added.
