The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has lauded the collaborative efforts between her team and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, along with the National Elections Security Task Force, describing the partnership as "fruitful." She extended her gratitude to the IGP for the "amazing work" done.

At a meeting with the national election security task force held at the Electoral Commission's headquarters on Monday, July 8, 2024, the EC Chair expressed the commission's full confidence in the security agencies' ability to ensure incident-free polls for the upcoming national election on December 7th.

"I'm pleased to note that all the activities we have undertaken so far have been very successful and inclusive, providing all citizens who wished to register with the opportunity to do so," she stated.

"We couldn't have achieved this without the cooperation of our security agencies. We've had meetings with the IGP and the National Security Task Force, and I would like to recognize the amazing work they have done so far. We've enjoyed fruitful collaboration with them, which has led to the successful exercises we have had," the EC boss added.

The EC Chair explained that the national election security task force, comprising personnel from various security agencies in the country and led by the IGP, has been effective in providing security for EC personnel and their activities nationwide.

She further praised the police for ensuring that officers from the commission's mobile teams received the same level of protection as their registration centers.

"We enjoyed the presence of police at all our registration centers, and the police also provided security for our mobile teams as they moved around the country. I would like to pledge our commitment to always work with the security agencies to ensure our objectives of free and transparent elections are achieved," she affirmed.

For his part, IGP Dr. Akuffo Dampare stated, "We are grateful to the public, the EC, and all other stakeholders for the cooperation we have received from them so far. I will continue to urge them to support the police in ensuring that Ghana remains a beacon of hope for the continent and beyond. This is the only country we have, and we need to ensure it's always at peace."
