President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, has led a three-man delegation from the Commission to brief President Akufo-Addo on the current development in the sub-region and also seek his leadership and wisdom in resolving issues of acrimony within membership and terrorism.

Dr. Touray also used the occasion to officially introduce the Globally Respected Statesman, Diplomat, and ECOWAS Special Envoy on Counter Terrorism, Ambassador Baba Kamara, to him.

President Nana Addo, who has also been a leading advocate for the fight against terrorism over the years and has always championed this fight so that it can be fought on a Global Scale, congratulated Amb. Baba for his role in championing peace within the subregion.

Recently at the 78th United Nations General Assembly at UN headquarters in New York City on September 20, 2023, President Akufo Addo raised the issue that, the fight against terrorism has to be a global fight, and that the resources dedicated to counter-terrorism must match the resources available to terrorist groups if not more.

Other members of the delegation were the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Dr Abdel-Fatau Musah, and the ECOWAS Resident Representative to Ghana, Baba Gana Wakil.

Dr Touray commended Ghana’s leading role in securing UN support: "We believe your mission would include leading us to find ways to raise the remaining 25 per cent.

President Akufo-Addo called for an ECOWAS-wide initiative, and let them feel that for them to have a real clarity going forward, there must be an agreement amongst the Heads of State as to their strategy going forward.
