Ambassador Nancy Q. Sam, vice president of the Economic Community for the West African States (ECOWAS) Tourism Private Sector Confederation (COPITOUR), has highlighted the need to promote ECOWAS countries as multiple tourist destination sites on one continent.

This according to her would help promote tourism in the sub-region and strengthen economic growth.

She said this when she arrived in Ghana from the 2nd annual session of the Board of Directors of the Employers’ Confederation of the Tourism Industry of the ECOWAS countries (Copitour) held in Dakar, Senegal from May 19 to 22, 2023.

The president of COPITOUR / ECOWAS, Mamadou Racine SY, who chaired the session in his earlier remark also expressed optimism about the possibility uniform tourism policy for the West African sub-region.

The president, Mamadou Racine SY said the goal of such a policy would help promote tourism as a means of boosting economic growth, creating jobs, and improving the quality of life for people in the region.

He noted that the ECOWAS private sector body could operate a uniform tourism policy that would benefit the sub-region in many ways.

The Minister of Tourism and Leisure in Senegal, Mame Mbaye Ning who attended the meeting also was confident in the ability of president Racine SY to turn around the Confederation.

Other Ghanaian delegation present at the meeting was, Dr. Kwesi Eyison, a representative from the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF).

The 2nd annual COPITOUR, CEDAO ECOWAS Board of Directors session was represented by 15 ECOWAS countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Serra Leone, Mali, Niger, Guinea Busaw, Guinea Conakry, Cape Verde, Cote D'Ivoire, Benin, Gambia, Togo as well as Burkina Faso.
