His Excellency Alan Kyerematen has ended a four-day official visit to Boston, Massachusetts. The visit, which was at the invitation of the Ghana Association of Greater Boston offered him the opportunity to meet with officials of the Boston City Council, the Mayor’s Office, and the Massachusetts House Speaker. Ambassador Kyerematen also addressed a cross-section of students in International Relations and their faculty at Simmons College of Arts and Sciences and Professional Studies.
Two business meetings were also held. The first was attended by about 30 businesses and sponsored by the Boston Private Bank and Trust Company. The second was by the Ghana Association of Greater Boston, which was attended by over 145 businesses. At these meetings, the ambassador explained how businesses in Africa work. ‘Africa’ he said, ‘was the last frontier for economic development in the world.’ Ghana, he described as ‘providing optimal location advantages and an enabling environment for trade and investment evident in so many achievements.’
At the meeting with officials from the Mayor’s office, Ambassador Kyerematen explained the importance of the Boston-Sekondi/Takoradi Sister City relationship and was pleased to learn that a committee of the two associations will lead ten businesses to Ghana in November this year.
Acknowledging the importance of Boston in the area of Information Communication Technology, he indicated that it was part of his agenda to attract IT and software development companies to Ghana. He cited the successful operations of ACS, a United States IT company with outsourcing facility in Ghana, as evidence of the availability of a pool of skilled labour to support such operations. Ambassador Kyerematen who was accompanied by the Trade and Investment Minister at the Embassy Mr. Evans Seth Addo also met the Ghanaian community in Newton, a suburb of Boston. The meeting was attended by over hundred people and lasted for three hours.
Ambassador Kyerematen talked about the circumstances of how the government got to power and the many problems it inherited. He assured them that notwithstanding these, plans were far advanced for the implementation of many projects including a 6-lane road from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Achimota, a 4-lane road from Achimota-Nsawam, dual carriage road from Accra to Cape Coast and dual carriage road from Accra to Aflao.
