American Chemical Society Donates To Legon

Mr Dennis Emmanuel Amedzeame-Dorbu; a level 400 chemistry major student of University of Ghana has doanted over 15000 books and journals University of Ghana at a ceremony held on wednesday 24th 2004. On recieveing the doantion, the Vice Chancxellor called on students to see this as a wakenign call to thinkof what they can do for their country and not always demanding things from the government.He also promised to assist the donor in whatever way to enable him honour his promise.

The books were from the American Chemical Society of which Mr. Amedzeame dennis is a member .


Mr Amedzeame Dennis called on student leaders to stop taking money from students and not doing anything for them. He also made apledge to secure over 100,000 books and equipments for the three public Universities in Ghana given the needed support. He is expected to attend the forthcoming 227th ACS National Meeting & Exposition in Anaheim CA to officially thank the society for the donation and also finalise arrangements with regards to donation of over 50,000 books from ACS, US Navy Academy, some NGOs' AND PHILANTHROPISTS in the USA.

The Dean of Science in his speech described the donor as one student who has done so much to help move the faculty forward. As President of the Science Students Association Of Ghana, he has organised numerous seminars and programs to help sesitize students on science education and its relevance to society. The last of which was a graduate School program organised for students of the University at which personalities like Nancy Keteku of Public Affairs of the US embassy and a represenattive from the British Council talked to the students.
