Ameyaw-Akumfi To Stand Again

Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways, last Monday filed his nomination to contest the primaries in the Techiman North Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He presented a bank draft with a face value of ?5 million, his academic certificates and other relevant documents to support his nomination, in line with party specifications.

The minister was followed by a large number of party supporters on his way to the constituency office where he filed the papers. After filing the papers, Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi visited Tuobodom, Offuman, Krobo, Asueyi, and Techiman Zongo, all in the constituency, to outline his vision to the people.

He said his prime concern for contesting the seat is to attempt to raise the standards of education in the constituency and also work for the general well-being of the people as an MP. He said one other concern is to help upgrade the road network in the constituency which is currently in a deplorable state.

Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi said this will facilitate the movement of farm produce and other commodities to the market centres in order to improve on the lives of the people. He noted that by virtue of the overwhelming support that he enjoys in the constituency, there is no doubt that he will win the election hands down. He pledged to seek the advice and consent of constituency executive in all decisions that affect the party and the people when elected.

At Toubodom, the minister urged the chiefs and people to unite and bury all their differences for the development of the community. He said as a people, misunderstanding is bound to emerge among them but cautioned them not to allow it to degenerate into tension, litigations, and the like.

The constituency Chairman of the party, Nana Kwabena Dwomoh, who received the nomination papers for presentation to the regional office in Sunyani, commended Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi for his good intentions to help the ordinary people out of their present hardship.

He urged the NPP faithful to ignore the lies being peddled by the NDC, adding that that party has nothing important to offer the country.

It would be recalled that in 1992, Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi was elected to run for the Techiman North Constituency on the ticket of the NPP but could not stand for the elections since the party boycotted the parliamentary election.
