Ameyaw-Ekumfi urges the people of Techiman to unite for development

Offuman (B/A), Oct. 20, GNA - Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Railways, Ports and Harbours on Tuesday appealed to chiefs and people of Offuman in the Techiman Municipal Area to unite and fight a common goal of development.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, who is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for Techiman North, made the appeal when addressing a durbar in the area during which he inaugurated a 2.5 million-cedi market and a block of six classrooms costing 258 million cedis at Offuman.

The market facility of 12 stores, 160 stalls, an office, a urinal and a lorry park, was co-funded by the Federal Republic of Germany while the Municipal Assembly provided 10 percent of the total project cost. Action Aid, a non-governmental organization (NGO), financed the school block, which also has a library and a staff common room, for the local primary.

Prof. Akumfi-Ameyaw advised the chiefs to work towards resolving a long-existing chieftaincy problem in the area, saying the dispute had the tendency of hampering their developmental efforts. He announced that the Government had plans to rehabilitate the Tuobodom-Offuman road.

The Minister advised people in the area to pay their market tolls and other taxes to enable the Municipal Assembly provide the social needs of the community.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi also advised the people to show maturity during the electioneering campaign.

Mr. Isaac Osei-Antwi, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive called on the people to vote for both NPP presidential and parliamentary candidates.

Obarima Sekyere, the local branch chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, urged the Market Management Committee to be fair in their allocations to avoid any confrontation from applicants.
