Amidu Denies Being Stoned At Yendi

Mr Martin Amidu, NDC presidential running mate has denied that he was stoned at Yendi in the Northern Region as alleged by an Accra Weekly.

Mr Amidu, Deputy Attorney General, said in a statement in Accra that he was not in Yendi on September 25 as alleged by the paper. He paid a visit to the town on September 23 and called on the Ya Na Yakubu Andani. Mr Amidu's statement was a reaction to a publication in ''the Guide'' headlined, "Looming Danger! Atta Mills' Veep stoned at Yendi''. The story alleged that a " the procession in which Mr Amidu was, came under a rain of stones and other dangerous missiles in which six NDC members of the Minister's entourage sustained various degrees of injuries."

He said he toured several towns in the Northern Region and on the 26th of September ''I called on the Tongo Rana, Zuarungu-Naba and entered Bawku in the evening to a thunderous welcome. ''It appears to me that the only reason for the front-page publication was to compromise the successful courtesy call I paid on the Ya Na on September 23. It was also intended to put the NDC in an unfavourable light in the eyes of the unsuspecting public'', Mr Amidu said.
