Amidu silent because he just may be tired of complaining – Ndebugri

Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu may have stopped venting his frustrations in the media space because he is possibly “fed up with complaining”, private legal practitioner John Ndebugri has surmised.

Mr Amidu, in the past, publicly complained about the lack of cooperation from state institutions and appointees of the President in carrying out his anti-graft functions.

He also ranted about the lack of financial and human resources at his disposal and also raised concerns about the logistical constraints placed on the functions of his three-bedroom office.

Speaking on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Wednesday, 18 December 2019 about whether or not the Office of the Special Prosecutor has lived up to expectation, Mr Ndebugri said the rants of his former Deputy Secretary of the Upper East Region during the PNDC era, are not without bases.

“Martin, in addition to the fact that the law has placed strictures on him, is not getting the cooperation that he ought to get and, therefore, he keeps complaining”, Mr Ndebugri noted.

“I heard the President, a few days ago, when he met the media people say that he hasn’t heard any complaints from him recently, so, it appears that the order he gave to his ministers to cooperate with him, has been taken seriously, but one possible reason why he [the President] is not hearing any complaints from Martin is that maybe the man has become fed up with complaining”, the former Zebilla MP conjectured.

In Mr Ndebugri’s view, Mr Amidu has “walked into a landmine and I’m only hoping that he can come out safely from it”.

“So, I don’t think it is any speculation that he is unable to perform the functions of that office not just because, according to him, the law has not given him too much latitude but the law has not given him that latitude because those who constructed the law were not interested in the office and, so, they constructed the law in such a way that there would be strictures”, Mr Ndebugri asserted.
