A State Attorney in the case of Amina Mohammed, the lady at the centre of the alleged mass rape on a Yutong bus, has indicated that he would call two witnesses at the next hearing and close his case.

This was after Patience Mills Tetteh, an Accra Circuit Court judge hearing the case, stated that she was “in a hurry to finish the case” as it had delayed, and said she was ready to have the matter over and done with.

The prosecuting attorney said he had one more witness, after which the investigator would be called and that would be the end of their case.

However, Andy Appiah Kubi, counsel for Amina, wanted Amina’s ‘brother’, Michael Ofosu Frimpong, to be recalled so he could tell the court whether or not what he had told it was the truth.

The trial judge said counsel for Amina was to ask Michael Ofosu only relevant questions.

Counsel for Amina wanted the state to concentrate its resources on more pressing issues, instead of dragging Amina to court day in, day out, but the trial judge said the prosecution had almost finished its case.

The judge has consequently adjourned the case to May 18 2012.

Amina has pleaded not guilty to causing fear and panic.

Amina captured national attention following her statement on Adom FM, a Tema-based radio station, that there was a mass rape of women on the Bawku-bound bus during a robbery attack at Kubiase.

The mother of three children claimed the armed robbers forced male passengers to have sex with their female counterparts, including a father who was supposedly forced to sleep with his 14-year-old daughter.

Amina, who is standing trial for causing fear and panic as well as deceit of public officer, has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is currently on a GH¢5,000 bail with a surety. Meanwhile, all the six witnesses called by the prosecution have indicated that indeed there was a robbery attack but they escaped narrowly.
