Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has urged Ghanaians not to pay particular attention to issues that yield results for a short while and neglect the other pressing issues which have longer effects on the economy.

Trainee nurses at the Bolgatanga Nurses’ Training College on Thursday met the Vice President with outrage over the nationwide withdrawal of trainee nurses’ allowances by government.

They levelled loud threats to even boycott the 2016 general elections if their demands were not met.

However, the vice President in his response admitted that people all over the country have concerns which need to be addressed but that should not guarantee a threat not to take part in the general elections if they have not been addressed yet.

”But we cannot have a democracy where only one item should be the concern against the hundreds of other matters that are important to us”, he added.

According to him, there are issues with long term effects on the economy which all should turn attention towards for the greater good of the country.

Meanwhile, he told them he had heard their concerns and will receive a copy of their petition and try to resolve it.

He counselled that, they may think the allowances are the only concerns they have now, but after school, they will start facing the facing the longer term concerns which were not discussed.
