Godwin Ako Gunn is Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC
The Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Godwin Ako Gunn, has called on the government and Ghanaians to also recognise the efforts of the ambulance driver who responded swiftly to the emergency.
According to him, while doctors named in investigative reports have faced criticism, the ambulance driver who rushed to the scene deserves equal recognition for his role.
“See, this is a journey. And I would also ask you if you know the name of the ambulance driver and crew who took Charles Amissah. Their names are not out there, and that’s how we operate as a country. Those who need to be applauded, we hide them and throw people out there to get chastised. I think that is something really missing in this discussion," he said in an interview with JoyNews on Friday, May 8, 2026.
He further added that the speed of the ambulance response from the report indicated it arrived within minutes, stating that such efficiency is rare and should not be ignored.
Gunn also warned that public debates risk becoming one‑sided when they focus only on blame while failing to acknowledge commendable actions.
“Because for an ambulance to appear, according to the report, just three minutes. I don't know how many countries you can get it from. And I think that needs to be applauded so that ambulances would also feel that their work has been appreciated by us,” Gunn said.
Doctors named in Amissah death report: Those who deserve applause are often overlooked while others are exposed to criticism; we should be praising the ambulance driver.
