Amputee gets 10 years imprisonment for defilement

Mpraeso (E/R), May 28, GNA - A circuit court at Mpraeso has sentenced a 27-year-old unemployed amputee to ten years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a six-year-old primary two girl. The amputee, Richard Yeboah pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Alex Gyamera Acheampong told the court presided over by Mr Kwabena Essumang Adu that both the accused, the victim and their parents live in the same house at Akuadwoo, a suburb of Nkawkaw.


He said the victim returned from school one day in March last year, and Yeboah invited her into his room on the pretext of sending her to purchase food for him.


He said as soon as the victim entered the accused's room, he locked the door and ordered her to remove her pants and go to sleep on his bed, the little girl who was frightened obliged and the accused sexually assaulted her on two different occasions but warned her not to tell her mother else she will die.

The Prosecutor said the victim's parents detected some bloodstains in the victim's pants and when questioned she informed her mother that she had been sexually assaulted by the accused. Inspector Acheampong said the parents of the girl immediately sent the victim to hospital where it was confirmed she had been sexually assaulted.


He said a report was later made to the police and the accused was arrested and charged with the offence. Passing sentence, Justice Adu said the accused should have taken into consideration the age of the victim before forcibly having sexual intercourse with her.
