Accra, Jan. 21, GNA - A Circuit Court in Accra on Friday sentenced a 26-year-old Electrician to two years' imprisonment for unlawful possession of a 15- year-old girl from Perugu in the Northern Region. Seth Tronu Goniky pleaded guilty to a charge of abduction and unlawful possession but he pleaded not guilty to a second charge of defilement and he is being tried for that.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Taiwah Boison told the Court presided over by Mr Kwadwo Owusu that in August 2000 the accused travelled to the Perugu to work and met the victim there and lured her to Accra under the pretext of securing a job for her He said upon arrival Goniky took her to his residence at Korle-Gonno and stayed with her without securing the job for her and forcibly and continually assaulted her sexually.
Chief Inspector Boison said the girl became pregnant and informed Goniky, who gave her some local medicine and after taking it, she started bleeding.
Sensing danger, the girl asked Goniky to give her money to enable her to go back to her hometown but he refused and abandoned her at Korle-Gonno. Later the girl managed and phoned one of her brothers in Accra and the brother made a report to the Police.
Goniky was later apprehended and he admitted having abducted the girl and sexually assaulting her on a number of occasions but he denied giving her local medicine to terminate a pregnancy.
