A section of the public has furiously condemned media reports that a huge number of Ghanaian children are murdered in northern part of the country on suspicion of being possessed by evil spirits.
Reviewers of the rather horrendous article on Ghanaweb minced no words by widely condemning perpetuators of the act, and implored relevant state authorities to take up the matter.
The practice, according to the report, is widespread in deprived and often marginalized communities in that part of the country.
This was uncovered during an investigative work by ace journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas of the New Crusading Guide newspaper in a piece that sought to uncover how children are habitually molested, despite the myriad of draconian laws which are sitting in our books.
Some of the critics could not comprehend why state institutions have suddenly become paper tigers for innocent children to be slaughtered as if they were fowls.
While calling for the immediate arrest of the trend, others praised the writer of the story for his special interest at revealing such a nerve-wracking issue.
Various local radio stations were flood with condemnations amidst calls that those captured in the video be apprehended to face the full rigors of the law.
“Those captured on the video must be arrested immediately and ruthlessly punished to deter people who are bent on perpetuating such an act to desist from it,” one of the contributors said.
The award winning journalists said, “During the three weeks that I worked on this story, I came across 10 men who were willing to kill a baby for spiritual reasons.
They were easy to find. Yet when I asked a senior police officer why no arrests have been made, his response was: "It is a very difficult thing to do.
It's unfortunate, we have no idea why this is happening, who is behind this and why they have not been arrested."
Government is yet to release any official statement on the matter, barely 48 hours the news hit town.
Anas is famous for utilizing his secrecy to investigate issues hampering the growth of the country with special priority on human rights abuses and corruption.
He has won critical acclaim for his work advocating for the right not to be held in human slavery or servitude and to have a standard of living in the event of an illness.
