To Anas, the establishment of the office of the Special Prosecutor does not end corruption
There is a proposition to government to allow ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas to train staff at the office of the Independent Special Prosecutor to help in the discharge of their duties.
Private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw believes if this is done, it will pave the way for them to be able to go undercover and unearth corrupt deals being perpetrated by persons both in public and private offices.
“Government should employ Anas Aremeyaw Anas to train these people so that they will expose corrupt persons in society. I will also want government to employ competent subsidiary staff and not party boys because if that is done, it will undermine the integrity of the Special Prosecutor Office”, he disclosed on Okay Fm.
In his view, the establishment of the office of the Special Prosecutor does not end corruption and underhand dealings in the country warning that if care is not taken the person appointed into the position could be consumed by corrupt practices himself/herself.
“There is too much corruption in Ghana and if care is not taken, there is the likelihood the appointee would be overwhelmed by corruption himself/herself”, he stressed.
According to him, the appointment of an Independent Special Prosecutor (ISP) in itself would not solve the problem of corruption in Ghana since most offices of the government are held by party members, it would be difficult to fight corruption using the ISP.
“Most of the appointment the president has made……. Let’s ask. He is doing it in favour of his party people, those who helped him and those around him. There are other people outside the party who are even better and can best fit such positions”. He observed.
