The continued and alarming decline in performance of the Black Stars of Ghana over the years has raised concerns and sparked discussions among the public, including both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaian football supporters.

Sitting on top of X trends for Wednesday, October 16, 2024, is the #BlackStars.

Other topics are Otto Addo, Sudan, Kurt, Kwesi Appiah, Salisu, Serwaa Amihere, Dede Ayew, GFA, Salifu Amoako, Kudus, Alidu Seidu, Ashimeru and Gideon Mensah.

Here’s a breakdown of why these topics are trending:

Black Stars

Ghana is on the verge of not qualifying for the 2025 AFCON after suffering a defeat against Sudan on October 15, 2024.

If this happens, it will be the first time Ghana has not qualified for an AFCON in the last 20 years.

Ghana currently sits third in their group with two points, with Angola already qualified.

Sudan sits second with 7 points following their win over Ghana.

Netizens are calling on the Ghana Football Association to either dissolve the team or prioritise local players for the Black Stars and to refrain from selecting foreign-based players.

Otto Addo

Otto Addo has faced intense backlash and criticisms for his coaching abilities following the team's defeat to Sudan, with Ghanaians calling for his dismissal.

GFA

Like Otto Addo, the Ghana Football Association, led by Kurt Okraku, has faced heavy backlash for overseeing poor performance across all levels of Ghanaian football.

Kurt Okraku's tenure has seen some of the worst performances, from youth to senior levels.

Additionally, the GFA’s appointment of Otto Addo has come under scrutiny once again, with netizens arguing that he is not qualified for the role.

Salisu

The Ghanaian defender’s inability to prevent the Sudanese striker from scoring Sudan’s first goal has sparked reactions, considering how high profiled personalities from the GFA begged him to represent Ghana during the 2022 World Cup.

He is being trolled by netizens.

Salifu Amoako

The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of Salifu Amoako and his wife following an incident involving their son.

Elrad Amoako, the couple's youngest son, drove into a vehicle, resulting in the deaths of two people at East Legon.

The victims died in the car which caught fire due to the impact of the crash.
