Anglican Diocese of Kumasi honours personalities

Kumasi, April.17, GNA-The Anglican Diocese of Kumasi on Sunday honoured 200 individuals and groups for their contribution towards the development and growth of the diocese since its creation 32 years ago. The awards ceremony also coincided with the sixth anniversary of the enthronement of Rt. Rev Daniel Yinka Sarfo as the third Bishop of the diocese.

Among the dignitaries who were honoured were two late kings of the Asante kingdom, Otumfuo Sir Osei Agyeman Prempeh II and Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, who provided land for the diocese for its various development projects. Others were Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene and Nana Afua Kobi Serwaah Ampem II, the Asantehemaa. Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Asante Mamponghene, Nana Kwaku Sarfo II, Ejurahene, Nana Twum Barima Apau III, Nkawiehene and Nana Barfour Amoateng III, Jachiehene were also honoured for releasing land for the school, hospital and other infrastructural development projects of the church in their various areas of jurisdiction. The late Justice Henry K. Prempeh, first diocesan chancellor, the late William K. Prempeh, first diocesan registrar and late Williams Boateng, first diocesan Public Relations officer, were the other personalities honoured.

In an address, Rt Rev. Daniel Yinkah Sarfo paid tribute to the recipients for their selfless and dedicated services, which had help in the growth of the church in the diocese. He noted that, any institution, which did not recognise the contributions of its past heroes, was not worth dying for and said the awards would serve as moral booster for all members in the church to contribute their quota to the growth and development of the church. Rev Yinkah Sarfo said plans were currently underway to compile the history of the church in the diocese to enable the young generation to appreciate the efforts of their forefathers towards the growth and development of the church.
