A marathon meeting by some Ga chiefs at the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs in Dodowa on Monday crippled official activities at the secretariat, according to reports.

The hurriedly arranged meeting chaired by its President, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, called on President John Mahama to replace Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, with a more “competent hands”.

The chiefs who were visibly angry employed harsh words to convey their anger, describing Afotey Agbo as “very incompetent and arrogant” in the discharge of his duties.

Nene Akuaku said members of the House were abhorred by the minister’s repeated interference in the affairs of the House, thereby, urging the president to review his position.

The irate chiefs accused the minister, who is affectionately called Lion, of engineering what they say is the “illegitimate” transfer of Mr Harry Anthony Attipoe, Registry of the Greater Accra House of Chiefs.

The House says inasmuch as it respects the periodic rotation of civil servants, it is incensed by the procedure adopted by the ministry to transfer Mr Attippoe, whom they described, as “very industrious”.

In a press statement released after the meeting, the House argued that the methods used in transferring Mr Attipoe was not only wrong, but a misnomer, adding that the decision was capable of undermining the authority of the House.

The chiefs, however, warned of a street protest against the sector minister, Dr Danaa and the presidency if Mr Attipoe’s “wrongful transfer” is not reversed in two weeks.

“We will hit the streets with our subjects if the ministry fails to follow due process. As we have stated, the methods used were unconventional as it was done to satisfy some individuals, including the regional minister,” the statement said.

In a letter dated March 11, 2016, and signed by Constant Gladzah acting Chief Director of the Chieftaincy Ministry, on behalf of Dr. Siedu Danaa -Sector Minister, was transferred to the Volta Region to take over from Daniel A. Azah, after a youth group in Kpone petitioned the ministry

The youth accused Mr Attipoe of misappropriation of funds and abrasive leadership style, but the chiefs say the youth were sponsored by some government officials to pursue the removal of Mr Attipoe.

“The accusations are baseless and unfounded. This group is faceless and we know those behind [these] machinations that is why we are saying until the regional minister is removed the House will have no peace”.

“We are aware of Mr Attipoe’s remarkable achievements and sincerity since he joined us two years [ago], and we are not going to sit down for [some] individuals to dictate [to] us,” the chiefs noted.
