A security researcher at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr Kwesi Aning, has applauded the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr John Kudalor, for the recent changes he effected in the police hierarchy.

Dr Aning said the changes will meet the security needs of the country. In his estimation, it is a good move, which will provide better security ahead of the 2016 elections.

“Taking into context the nature of security in Ghana and West Africa and the challenges that the Police Service faces, I think Mr Kudalor has made changes that respond to the challenges that we are facing and hopefully his own expectation of what he wants to achieve,” Dr Aning told Joy FM.

In the latest shake-up in the police hierarchy, Director-General (Administration) of the Ghana Police Service COP Rose Bio Atinga will now be the Director-General of Research and Planning at the National Police Headquarters.

COP Prosper Kwame Agblor is now the Director-General (CID National Headquarters) while DCOP Ransford Ninson, Regional Commander (Central Region) has moved to Director-General (Medics, National Police HQ, Accra).

COP David Asante Apeatu, who, before the changes, was Director-General of Research, has now been posted to the National HQ as Director-General (ICT).

Director-General of the MTTD DCOP Awuni is now the Eastern Regional Police Commander, while COP Seidu Mohamadu Zakaria, who was Director (Hospital), now becomes the Director-General (Medics) at the National Police HQ, Accra.

Director-General of Public Affairs, DCOP Nenyi Ampah-Bennin has been moved to head the Police Investigations and Professional Standards Bureau (PIPS), Superintendent Cephas Arthur is now the Director of Public Affairs.
