Another Ghanaian Drug Dealer Arrested in NY

A drug dealer has been arrested New York. Enoch Opoku, a taxi driver, who arrived in the US about five years ago, was busted when he was on his way to Virginia on a drug business deal.

Enoch Opoku, has, within his limited time in New York, been able to buy a house in New York City, making a down payment of $100,000 in cash. In addition, he has been able to ship a number of luxury cars to Ghana within the past few years. What Enoch did not know was that the FBI has been trailing him and his activities. He was arrested about a month ago while on his way to Virginia.

It is likely that he will be deported after serving his jail sentence. The assets he has acquired in the US will be confiscated to the state. The unfortunate thing is that, Enoch Opoku has put his wife and his little daughter in harm’s way with his greedy and criminal actions.

All this comes on the heels of Amoateng’s drug trial and the ongoing saga of drug trafficking involving some Ghanaians and well places police personnel in Ghana whish have all overshadowed positive developments in Ghana, including our impeccable success performance in the just ended World Cup. In Amoateng’s case, he has also been charged with a previous drug trafficking in 2003.

Nonetheless, the current ongoing Georgina wood investigations should give President Kufuor an opportunity to get serious with the tarnishing image of Ghana. The President needs to get serious and address the nation about the drug menace. He needs to send a very positive and strong message to all Ghanaians who a dabbling in the drug business. With the new drug Bill all who are arrested in connection with drug trafficking must be refused bail, indicted and jailed. In addition all their assets and bank statements must be confiscated to the state.
