Another fatal bus accident - 15 Die!!!

Obuasi,(Ash) Aug. 30, GNA - Fifteen people were killed, 11 on the spot and four later at the Hospital when three 207 Benz Buses crashed into one another at Akokoaso on the Obuasi-Kumasi main road Tuesday.

The bodies of those who died on the spot and yet to be identified have been deposited at the mortuary of the Bekwai-Ashanti Government Hospital.

Two later died at the Obuasi Government Hospital and another two at the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital.

In all 16 injured passengers were rushed to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital before the two died.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Samuel Osuro Kwarteng Addai, the Jacabu District Police Commander who briefed the press, said he heard about the accident around 1230 hours and quickly informed the MP of the area and the District Chief Executive who rushed to the scene of the accident.

"We came to meet dead bodies scattered on the road and in the outlying weeds," he said.

According to the District Police Commander, they are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident.

The three vehicles are AS1012U, which was travelling from Jacobu to Obuasi, AS3473W, travelling from Kumasi to Tarkwa and AS9183V moving from Dunkwa to Kumasi.

Meanwhile, sources from the Obuasi divisional MTTU explained that for reasons yet to be established, the driver of AS9183V veered off his side to the other side and immediately the driver of AS1012U hit the passenger side of the vehicle and since the driver of AS3473W was following, it also hit it causing AS1012U to somersault.

"Most of the dead persons are in the AS1012U bus", the source said, adding, "we are yet to establish what caused the driver of AS9183V to veer off his lane."
