Another fire outbreak at the Kumasi Central market has razed down more than 30 shops, destroying properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.
The fire started around 2: 30am Saturday night, reported Luv FM’s Erastus Asare-Donkor who said firemen have been able to stop it from spreading further.
The cause of the fire is to be determined, but Erastus said some traders suspect it might have been triggered by a power failure.
No casualty was reported, and no one sustained injuries. Erastus said some traders attempted to salvage what they can but were stopped by the police.
Regional Commander DCOP Augustine Gyening said his men did not just prevent looters from getting to the fire scene but also comforted the victims.
Deputy Regional Minister Samuel Yaw Adusei added there is soon going to be a reconstruction of the market which will take into account all recommendations given by stakeholders.
