There is growing apprehension and general feeling of insecurity among people in Kumasi and its outlying districts, despite the call for calm and assurances by the police, as robbers shoot dead another person.

The latest victim, Joseph Baah Tweneboah, an employee of the Food and Agriculture Ministry, was gunned down, on Tuesday, May 31, at Aputuogya, near Kumasi.

He was attacked in his house with his family by the robbers at about 1930 hours.

They reportedly ordered him to surrender all his money and other valuables and angered by the fact that, he had little money and no items of real value, they shot at him at close range.

They escaped with four mobile phones and a laptop computer.

This comes on the heels of three separate recent unresolved robbery deaths – the killing of a police officer in a hotel at Dichemuoso, an electrician at Ahenama Kokoben, and a woman at Pakyi.

The police believe these robbery attacks are being carried out by the same gang.

The body of the deceased, believed to be in his 40’s has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) mortuary.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Commander, has visited the crime scene and the bereaved family to console them.

He renewed the pledge to do everything to track down and arrest the robbers.

Already a crack team of police officers from the national headquarters is in Kumasi to assist hunt the hardened.
