Another rainstorm has hit the Northern regional town of Yendi, displacing security agencies and ripping off roofs of over 90 houses, even before the region recovers from recent devastating storms.

The latest is a severe rainstorm which occurred last night, rendering some security personnel in the town homeless. The rain also ripped off roofs of some 16 schools.

The victims, who have since been appealing for support, complain of losing all their property to the rain.

According to Joy New’s northern regional correspondent, Hashmin Mohammed, the 96 houses that had their roofs ripped off include those of divisional Police Commander, Crime officer, Prisons offices and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

Sixteen classrooms in three basic schools also have their roofs ripped off; the victims are reportedly seeking refuge with relatives.

Office documents and equipment including computers are said to be completely damaged.

The MCE, Issah Zacharia who has expressed shock at the extent of damage caused, has appealed to non-governmental and other benevolent organisations for help.

“On the 28th of February there was a rainstorm, exactly a month after recovering from another storm which hit the town; the latest is even more severe,” he lamented.
