Anti-gay laws will stay – John Boadu

The Akufo-Addo-led government will not expunge anti-gay laws from Ghana’s constitution, John Boadu, Acting General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said.

According to him, the laws against homosexuals in Ghana will continue to remain.

His comments come on the heels of UK Premier Theresa May’s comment that her government was ready to help its former colonies such as Ghana rewrite their laws to accommodate homosexuals.

Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Thursday, 19 April, Mr Boadu noted that Ghana, at the moment, is confronted with more pressing bread and butter issues and that is where the government will channel its strength and resources.

“We won’t even waste our time to discuss this matter, as we speak, the laws of this country are against homosexuality and that is what we will work with.

“Nobody will change the laws, the party and government won’t be pressured by the West to legalise homosexuality”, Mr Boadu said.



He added: “Our focus at the moment is to find ways of dealing with the unemployment issues facing the country at the moment, if they are interested in Ghana, they should partner our government to reduce the unemployment rate.”
