Anti-theft system on phone exposes thief

A 19-year-old boy has been fined 200 penalty units or 5 months’ imprisonment with hard labour should he default for stealing a Samsung mobile phone valued at Ghc300.

The convict, Evans Blebo Annan, a fisherman, stole the phone from the complainant’s veranda at Teshie Camp 2.

According to the Teshie District Police Commander, DSP Simon Agbodeka, after stealing the phone, Evans sent it to a phone repairer to be repaired.

However, the repairer could not repair the phone and gave it back to Evans.

With the help of the anti-theft device, the complainant was able to trace the phone to Evans and sent him to the police station.

Evans then led the police to his residence to retrieve the phone.

In his caution statement, he admitted the offence and was arraigned before court.
