A massive Demolishing exercise has hit Anwiankwanta in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti region which has affected several structures and properties.
The exercise which started around 7pm yesterday was undertaken by one Mr. Asante who claimed the ownership of the land.
The victims accused the Bekwai Municipal Assembly of being the brain behind the unorganized exercise.
Traders in Anwiankwanta described the exercise as unlawful saying authorities of the Bekwai Municipal Assembly asked them to vacate from the land on January 15, 2018 to pave way for Mr. Asante to setup his fuel station but ended up in a demolishing exercise.
The traders who spoke to Abusua FM’s Osei kwadwo demanded for damages the Metropolitan Assembly over loss of their properties.
They claim Mr. Asante had told them that his party is in power and therefore has every right to vacate them from the land.
“We want President Nana Addo to address this issue. Government should understand that this demolishing exercise will have effect on our livelihood. Our capitals are bank loans so now that our goods have been destroyed, where are we going to get money to pay back the bank” they said. Mr. Asante after the exercise refused to speak the media.
