Although the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has not publicly responded to recent criticisms and what has been labeled as increasing hostility from other tribes toward the Ashantis, many are stepping up to speak on his behalf.

Initially, Ashantis on social media, including various celebrities, condemned the negative developments.

Subsequently, sub-chiefs and queen mothers also voiced their concerns in viral interviews, expressing their outrage at the situation.

Queen Mother Ohenenana Owoabrempong Akua Afriyie described Afia Pokua, who allegedly disrespected the Asantehene, as mentally unstable, warning that she will face the consequences of her actions.

In light of the development, the Ashanti Youth have escalated their reaction by taking to the streets to protest and holding a press conference.

At the conference on Saturday, September 20, 2024, in Kumasi, they pledged to take drastic actions against anyone who disrespects the Asantehene or the Ashanti kingdom.

"We want to serve this notice to all who have the intentions of disrespecting the Asanteman and attacking the Otumfuo that we are fully aware of your plans and let it be known that henceforth, any attack or disrespect towards the Otumfuo shall be met with the same force,” the spokesperson stated.

They are also calling on the media house that provided the platform for their presenter, Mona Gucci, and her guest, Afia Pokua, to disrespect the Asantehene to issue an unqualified public apology or face the consequences.

Addressing the Dormahene amidst their ongoing feud over supremacy, he added,

“Any chief who seeks to create division in the country is an abominable human being. The Otumfuo is sovereign over several jurisdictions, including where you claim to reign. So what exactly is your problem? A chief should unite, not divide.”

What the Dormaahene recently said about his feud with Otumfuo

When asked about his feud with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and its impact on the community, the Dormaahene urged the youth to stay out of the conflict.

He emphasised that the disagreement is a matter between adults and advised respect for Otumfuo due to his seniority.

"My priority is the development of my town. I won’t engage in petty disputes. I encourage everyone to focus on the positive developments we’re working towards rather than getting caught up in personal conflicts," he stated.

“I will indulge those on social media, the youth, not to involve themselves in what’s happening. The issue is between grownups,” he stated.
