Anyani Boadum rescues ‘Assassin’

There was drama in an Accra Circuit yesterday when Rt Rev Dr. Nana Anyani Boadum, founder of the Jesus Generation Ministries, paid a fine imposed on an accused person who had threatened to kill him.

The convict Emmanuel Yaw Owusu, a security man at the Anyaa Pentecost Church, was slapped with a Ghc4,800 fine for threatening to kill the man of God and three others.

He was alleged to have threatened to kill Rt Rev Anyani Boadum if a ransom of Ghc5,000 was not paid to him.

Owusu is reported to have sent this text messages to the four Pastors. We are robbers. We demand Ghc5,000 from you and your church or we eliminate you and your family as well as 5,000 members of your church. Send it or action.”

However, slapped with a fine of Ghc4,800 in a court presided by over by Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, the complainant in consultation with the other complainants, namely Rev Dr. Prince Baah, Bishop Samuel Noi Mensah and Rev Christopher Marfo Ahenkorah, paid the fine to save Owusu from a four-month jail term.

The court said it had taken into consideration his circumstances as a security man who was paid Gh200 a month and ordered Owusu to sign a bond of good behavior for 24months or in default serve six months in prison.

Earlier, Owusu had asked the court as well as the complainants for forgiveness, insisting that he had erred and needed to be forgiven.

The accused pleaded guilty to the four counts of threat of death. At the beginning of the trail, Chief inspector Ofori Amanfo and the complainant, Rev Dr. Boadum, is a pastor and the General Overseer of the Jesus Generation Ministries and that on March 23,this year the complaint received the threatening text message from a Vodafone number.

Prosecution said the complainant reported the matter on April 1 and Owusu was arrested when he agreed to meet an undercover agent to receive the money
