Wa (Upper West) 21 Dec '98 AlhajiIbrahim Mahama, a leading member of the ConventionParty (CP) has urged women to get actively involved in politics and aspirefor high positions. Alhaji Mahama was speaking at the Upper - West Regional delegates congress of the party to elect its executive committee members at Wa on Monday. The executives who were elected unopposed include Alhaji Seidu Sulemana, RegionalChairman, Alhaji Lamim, Vice-chairman and Mr Jonas Anvour, Regional Secretary. Others are Hajia Ajara Sani,Women organiser and Mr Issahaque Mustafa,Treasurer. Professor Mawuse Dake, central executive member of the party who swore in the new executives asked them to be dedicated and loyal to the party and to carryout their campaign activities seriously to enable the party to win power in the 2000 elections. He said the central executive committee of the party has set up a co-ordinatingcouncil to monitor the activities of the party in the Northern, UpperEast and Upper West Regions to ensure effective organisation in three Regions. He reiterated the determination of the CP to reverse the divestiture programmeof the government when the party gains power and castigated the NDC governmentfor not carrying any new development projects "but only rehabilitatingold infrastructure put in place by the Kwame Nkrumah regime."
