Apam Sec. Teachers Call For Dismissal Of Headmistress

Teachers at the Apam Secondary School in the Central Region are demonstrating against the headmistress, Esther Hamilton whom they accuse of engaging in corrupt practices. The teachers, who are demanding the dismissal of Mrs Hamilton, have refused to teach.

They have threatened a full-scale strike if the Ghana Education Service does not respond soon enough to their demands. In the meantime, they have petitioned the Ministry of Education and the office of the President detailing Mrs Hamilton’s alleged corrupt practices and her mismangement of the school.

The teachers in a 26-point resolution have accused Mrs Hamilton among other things of purchasing items for the school, although that function is a prerogative of the Accounts section. She has also misdirected funds meant for building of toilet facilties for the school and this has resulted in a situation where students attend nature’s call at prohibited places. Out of the over 60 teachers in the school, 19 support the embattled headmistress.
