Apam chief calls for credible voters register

The chief of Apam, Nana Edu Effrim X, has appealed to the Electoral Commission to publish the number of people registered at each constituency level for the information of Ghanaians.

He said if Ghanaians knew the total number of registered voters at every constituency, it would help avoid the situation whereby the number of people who actually voted at a particular constituency was higher than the total number of registered voters.

Nana Effrim made the appeal when the Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom paid a courtesy call on him at his palace at Apam on Thursday.

Dr Nduom was on a tour of the Central Region.

The chief said election results had often led to violence and also created misunderstanding due to the lack of confidence in the figures released. “A credible voters’ register accepted by all political parties would therefore help avoid such incidents and avoid tension in the country."

He said his personal visits to some churches in Apam to appeal to members to register to enable them to participate in the December general elections had yielded fruitful results.

Dr Nduom promised Ghanaians free compulsory education from the Kindergarten to the Senior Secondary School level if voted into power.**
