Ghana?s Food and Drugs Board (FDB) has banned the production and sale of "Adwendwen Asa", a popular herbal preparation in the Kumasi Metropolis.

?Adwendwen Asa? literally translated as ?worry no more? is used as aphrodisiac in the Kumasi metropolis.

A statement issued in Kumasi and signed by the Zonal Officer of the Board, Joseph B. Bennie, said the ban followed an unannounced inspection of the production premises located at Dunkwa-on-Offin.

The factory is located at a mechanic garage and a mechanic owns it.

The mechanic doubles as herbalist.

The board said that even though the product is not an herbal drug, it was distributed and sold as herbal medicine to the public.

The statement described the product as a mixture of orthodox drugs including Vitamin B complex and tetracycline.

The product, which is not registered by the Food and Drugs Board, is claimed to cure diseases such as asthma, diabetes, typhoid fever, fibroid, jaundice, stomach ulcer and sickle cell
