The Swedruman Council of Chiefs and elders has resolved to initiate a reconciliation process between President J.A. Kufuor and former President J.J. Rawlings ?to resolve the seemingly intractable enmity between them.?

The council has, therefore, called on all Ghanaians of goodwill to join hands with it to realise the dream of ?perfect peace? between the two men in the interest of all Ghanaians.

However, a statement issued by the council after its meeting at Swedru, in the Central Region, on Thursday, April 14, and signed by 10 chiefs and elders, expressed their displeasure with the ex-president?s comparison of President Kufuor with ?the most notorious criminal in Ghana ? Ataa Ayi.?

It said, ?The frequent public abuse of the current president of this country by the former president, is unbecoming of Mr Rawlings as a former head of state and reflects badly on the man himself and his political party and indeed, the whole nation.?

The council noted that the public insults cast a slur on all the people of Ghana and set a very bad example for the youth of this nation. ?Such statements do immense damage to the good name of Ghana abroad and can impact negatively on the chances of more foreign investment in Ghana,? it said.

It, therefore, called on the ex-president to apologize ?unreservedly and publicly to the people of Ghana for his unjustified slanderous and potentially treasonous attacks on President Kufuor, who as the occupant of the presidency of Ghana, represents physically, spiritually and collectively the people of Ghana.?
