Some aggrieved Ghanaians have chided stand-in Black Stars captain Mohammed Kudus for offering an apology to the public following the Black Stars' disappointing results in their 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan in Accra and Libya.

The midfielder, speaking on behalf of the entire squad in a social media post on October 16, 2024, stated, "As someone who captained the team in the two games, it is with great humility and a deep sense of responsibility that I issue this statement.

“On behalf of the entire team, I would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the people of Ghana for our recent performances against Sudan in Accra and Libya."

Kudus, however, assured fans that the team is determined to learn from their mistakes and bounce back stronger.

In reaction to this, some netizens believe that an apology is not enough for Ghanaians to forgive their poor performances in recent times, which has placed the country at a higher risk of not qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

They asserted that it would be better for proper measures to be put in place to fix the challenges rather than the captain asking for forgiveness from the public.

Others also called out the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for their silence after the abysmal performance, suggesting that they should also apologize to Ghanaians.

After four matches played, Ghana are third in Group F with two points, Sudan is in second place with seven points, while Angola lead with twelve points.

The Black Stars will travel to face Angola and play the last match against Niger in Ghana in November
