The Acting Chairman of the Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI), Dr. Augustine Annor-Yeboah was on Monday commended for apologising to the Ga Traditional Council (GTC) for a statement that offended the council.

The Very Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Asante, Principal of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, told the GNA in an interview in Accra that in as much as individual liberties and rights must be respected, there is the need to avoid militancy in ensuring the rights.

He spoke to the GNA after delivering the first of a series of lectures organised by the African Bible College for Christian Reconstruction, that only continuous dialogue could solve the current rift between the charismatic Christian groups and the traditional council.

Rev Dr Asante advised the two sides not to adopt a confrontational approach since that could be volatile. To church leaders who advise their members to arm themselves to do battle with the traditionalists, Rev. Dr. Asante said, "Christians wage a spiritual warfare, and not a physical one. Also, it is high time we realised that the essence of worship is not in noisemaking."

He asked the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to enforce the byelaws on noise making to regulate noisy activities generally and to minimise noise pollution levels.

Ga youths in a bid to enforce a one-month ban on drumming and noisemaking ahead of the Homowo festival have for the second successive Sunday clashed with Christian worshippers.

On May 13, some items of Church property were destroyed when Ga youths stormed the Christ Apostolic Church, near the Osu cemetery to ensure compliance with the ban.

Last Sunday, Police arrested 11 youths after they attacked the Prisons Church, a nearby Baptist Church, Assemblies of God Church and Christ Apostolic Church at Cantonments.
