A well known Kumasi based NPP activist and a serial caller, Appiah Stadium, threatened to curse Mr. Clement Kegeri, an Ashanti regional Metro TV. correspondent. Appiah stadium made the threat during an interview with PeaceFM’s News on the issue that he allegedly assaulted Mr. clement Kegari, when Mr. Kegeri attempted covering a demonstration led by him.
The Daily Democrat, a Pro NDC Newspaper, on Friday March 20, 2009 reported that, Mr. Kegari in the company of Mr. Abdul Basit had a hint about a demonstration being lead by Appiah Stadium at the Kumasi sports stadium so decided to cover the assignment, but Appiah Stadium branded them as NDC spies who were coming to publish falsehood against the NPP and therefore raised on alarm compelling the wild demonstrators to chase them until they seized their video camera, mobile phone and other personal items.
Reacting to the newspaper report, Appiah stadium denied the publication and warned Mr. Kegari to stop lying in pro NDC papers; or else he will curse him on air by citing the Antoa curse invoked by a leading NDC member, Mr. Agyakum as an example.
He admitted leading the demonstration after the electoral commissioner, Dr. Afari Gyan, announced that he could not declare a final winner in the 2009 elections without the people of Tain voting, but he never directed his people to assault Mr. Kegari and even if there was an assault, he never had a hand in it and neither was he at the scene.
In a separate interview with PeaceFM’s news, Mr. Kegari admitted Appiah Stadium was not at the scene but maintained that Appiah Stadium had a hand in the assault because he was the leader of the demonstrators and always brands him (Mr. Kegari) as an NDC spy a charge he vehemently denies.
Mr. Kegari further stated that he has reported the case to the police but was told Appiah Stadium can not be arrested because he was not the one who assaulted him.
The Metro TV Ashanti Regional correspondent, however said he disagrees with the police, since “Appiah Stadium, was the leader of the demonstrators, thus making him (Appiah Stadium) guilty of assault”
