Accra, Feb. 6, GNA - Stephen Tornado Appiah, inspirational Captain of the national team, Black Stars on Tuesday interacted with pupils of his former primary school as part of UNICEF and Confederation of African Football (CAF) campaign on Education For All.

At the St. Martins Preparatory and Junior High School at Chorkor, where Appiah had four years basic education, the pupils had the opportunity to question him on his achievements while residents thronged to the scene to have a glimpse of the celebrity.

Appiah advised the children not to abandon their education, since it was key to an individual's success, saying the era whereby people thought that education did not matter much in developing one's career in soccer had past.

He said, although his dream to become a footballer began at that school, he did not drop out and was therefore proud to have attained such fame. Appiah attributed his success to dedication, hard work and his readiness to learn and urged the children never to give up in life when they faced any obstacle.

He said as a father of three, he loved children and hoped to do more charity work to support children. Mrs Liv Elden Dzokoto, Deputy Resident Representative of UNICEF said UNICEF and CAF were into partnership to raise funds and also awareness to support education in the country. She said UNICEF would continue to commit itself to promoting the interests of children and ensure that each child would at least complete basic school.

Meanwhile, UNICEF said the campaign being supported by other African players such as Samuel Eto'o, Nwankwo Kanu and Saloman Kalou have been encouraging so far. She appealed to the public to support quality education by testing KIDS to MTN short code 1388 at one Ghana cedis.
