The Member of Parliament for Wenchi-West Constituency, Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketia has challenged the NPP government, to state clearly to Ghanaians whether it is his intention not to work anymore with chief Directors at the various Ministries, or it is another concept of ministerial appointment it is introducing by choosing special assistants.

According to Hon. Asiedu Nketia, Special Assistants seem to be in contention with Chief Directors and Deputy Ministers, when it comes to job execution. Speaking in an interview with Peace fm, Hon Asiedu Nketia challenged President Kufour to go ahead and appoint full-time ministers in addition to existing ones, rather than appointing numerous special Assistants and Advisors which in the long ran, enlarges the size of his government.

In a reaction, the Special Assistant to the Information and Presidential Affairs Minister, Mr Ferdinand Ayim has stated that, the concept of appointing special Assistants was created by the National Redemption Council government in 1978 upon a recommendation by the school of Administration.

Mr Ayim said, special Assistants are there to ensure that the government delivers on its promises to the people, and promote efficiency and effectiveness in the various ministries. He said, the Special Assistants are appointed on the recommendation of ministers, yet, they do not serve the individual interests of such ministers.
