Renowned legal practitioner, Dr. Maurice Ampaw has said, accusation businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome that the Attorney General, Marrietta Brew-Oppong benefited from his ?51 million judgement debt must be investigated although he believes there’s no truth in that.

He described the allegation as “serious” and counsel the A-G not to be “too emotional” about the claim.

“This is a very serious case but the A-G, Brew-Oppong must not be too emotional about it. She has been accused, so the best thing for her to do is to do proper investigation. She should invite an independent organization to investigate the claims. Both parties should be called to answer questions,” he said.

Mr. Woyome who was charged for causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretense in the controversial GH¢ 51 million judgment debt was acquitted and discharged after three years of litigation but the AG is still pursuing the case.

But in a statement issued last Friday, Woyome is claiming Marrietta Brew-Oppong and her firm, Lithur and Brew Chambers, “benefitted approximately ?1,474,393 from the said judgment debt you now so much criminalise and want me jailed for".

The self-acclaimed NDC financier insists that the AG, Mrs Marrieta Brew-Oppong is biased and unfit to be the Attorney-General so therefore she must resign from her post.

The Attorney-General (A-G) and Minister of Justice, Marrietta Brew-Oppong has described as "completely false" the accusation by Mr. Woyome and said president John Dramani Mahama is solidly behind her to pursue the case.

Speaking on OKAY FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" morning show, Lawyer Ampaw opined that, “She [Marrietta Brew-Oppong] should not hide behind the president. She should be bold enough and deal with the issue.”

“I will advise the woman that, if possible, she should step aside and investigate the charges against her by Woyome. Woyome is deliberately raising issues to tarnish her reputation,” he added.

Maurice Ampaw, however, appealed to President Mahama to reappoint Martin Amidu as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and set a committee to investigate Mrs Marrieta Brew-Oppong about the claims labeled against her.
