Apraku completes NPP nomination process

Accra, Sept. 25, GNA - Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, an aspiring presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday submitted his nomination forms and paid the required GH=A225,000 (250 million cedis).

Dr Apraku, thus became the second aspirant to successfully file nomination in order to contest the NPP presidential primaries to be held in December this year. Mr Alan Kyerematen, former Minister of Trade, Industry and President's Special Initiative filed his papers on Monday. In accordance with the NPP's regulations, presidential aspirants are expected to pay GH=A2500 (5,000,000) for the application forms and GH=A225,000 (250 million cedis) as filing fee.

Nana Ohene Ntow, NPP General Secretary, who received the nomination forms, reiterated an appeal to the aspirants to desist from holding themselves out as though they had been elected as the Party's candidates for the elections next year.

"Aspirants must not present themselves nationally and internationally as representatives of the Party until elected," he reiterated, adding that they should desist from making any policy statement in the name of the Party, except where the policy statements are already adopted by the Party.

"Party officers are to refrain from openly declaring the support of any branch, constituency or organ for any individual candidate or campaigning for them," Nana Ntow added.

A dozen aspirants have picked up nomination forms since nomination opened on Saturday. Some 20 people have openly declared their intention to contest the primaries. 25 Sept. 07
