Kumasi Sept. 4, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court has sentenced a 43-year-old Arabic teacher to 300 months imprisonment for defiling a two-year-old girl. Mallam Alhassan pleaded guilty. Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court that the victim lives with the mother at Sawaba in Kumasi where the convict also resides.

On August 28 the little girl was left in the care of her eight year-old sister as the mother went to the market but no sooner had the mother gone than the big sister abandoned the victim. Mallam Alhassan took advantage of the situation and indecently assaulted the toddler and when the mother returned she found her crying.

The persistent pointing of her fingers to her sex organ aroused the curiosity of the mother. When the mother examined her and she saw that she had been sexually abused. Police Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said the victim mentioned the convict and a report was made to the Manhyia Division of the Police Domestic Violence and Victims' Supporting Unit (DOVVSU) who arrested the convict. 0
