Archbishop Agyinasare breaks silence on galamsey menace

Founder of the Perez Chapel International, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, has stated that due to illegal mining activities popularly known as galamsey occurring in the country, Ghana is contradicting the mandate that God gave to man.

Speaking to his congregation in a sermon, the archbishop stated that God’s mandate to man was to keep and preserve the land. However, galamsey has degraded the lands and water bodies, contradicting this divine mandate.

Providing details on why people are involved in galamsey, he stated that unemployment is a major factor driving people into illegal mining.

He added that poverty is another key factor behind the massive involvement of youth in galamsey.

“When God created man, He made us the caretakers of the earth. But unfortunately, we are allowing galamsey to degrade our lands and destroy our water bodies, contradicting the divine mandate God gave us. So why is galamsey happening?

“There are several reasons. The first one is poverty and unemployment, and because of that, many individuals are turning to illegal mining as a means of survival,” he said.

Meanwhile, several calls have been made to the government to tackle galamsey activities.

In response, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the Minister for Defence to deploy more military personnel to fight the menace.
