Archbishop of Canterbury to visit Ghana

Koforidua, July 11, GNA - The Head of the Anglican Church, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Rowan Williams, would visit the West African Province of the Church from July 23 to 30. This would be his first official visit outside Great Britain after his enthronement as the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury on February 27, 2003.

He would visit Koforidua, seat of the Primate of the Anglican Province of West Africa, the Most Reverend Robert Garshong Allotey Okine, on July 25.

According to a statement in Koforidua on Thursday, Archbishop Williams would attend a service on the same day and call on the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Oti Boateng, before travelling to Kumasi.

He would also visit the Accra and Cape Coast Dioceses of the Church as well as Sierra Leone and Gambia.

Archbishop Williams, 53, is married to Jane Paul, a Lecturer in Theology and they have a son and a daughter.

He was enthroned Bishop of Monmouth in 1992 and Archbishop of Wales in 2000 before becoming Archbishop of Canterbury.
