For someone whose work is barely evident, it comes as quite a surprise that he still is very vocal, Ghanaians have said about Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.
Their comments come on the back of comments made by the latter in a one-on-one interview with celebrated journalist, David Ampofo. Mr. Amidu indicated that government was pressured into setting up his office as a result of their rigorous campaign against corruption in 2016.
He also described elite politicians as the ‘new colonial masters’ who want to exploit the country using their positions. Mr. Amidu further pledged to fight corruption even if it costs his life.
But social media users are questioning his statements. While many are referring him to their past warnings; ones about being ‘silenced’ by the ruling government, others described him worse than the ‘sitting duck’ he claims the Attorney General wanted to make him.
As Special Prosecutor, Mr Amidu has done very little, leaving many disappointed. But he has blamed noncooperation from state agencies and lack of resources as challenges to his work.
