Armed men snatch bag containing 10 million cedis

Accra Nov. 10, GNA - Three armed men on Tuesday snatched a bag containing 10 million cedis from two persons who had cashed the money from Amalgamated Bank at Adabraka.

The armed men also shot Mr. Austin Anyani, one of the victims and an employee of the Feeder Roads Department in the leg when he attempted to pick the bag containing 10 million cedis, which had fallen on the floor. Narrating the incident to the GNA at the Ridge Hospital on Wednesday, Mr. Anyani said on Tuesday at about 0930 hours he and John, a colleague went to the bank to withdraw 10 million cedis to purchase spare parts. According to Mr Anyani, he was carrying five million cedis while John was carrying the 10 million cedis they had cashed.

He said after withdrawing the money, they found it difficult to get a taxi in front of the bank and therefore, decided to walk a few meters away in search of a taxi.

Mr. Anyani said on their way, the armed men who were in a wine Opel Astra parked their vehicle in between the road and two of them alighted. He said one of the armed men slapped his colleague on his face from behind and snatched the 10 million cedis.

The money, Mr Anyani said fell in the process and he (Mr Anyani) picked it and decided to run away but he was shot in the leg by one of the armed men who was in a mask.

As soon as the robbers picked the money, they fled with their booty. Mr Anyani said a Good Samaritan who was at the scene rushed to him Ridge Hospital where was currently on admission.

He said John also reported the matter to the Police at Adabraka.
