Armed robbers attack passengers on Tamale-Yendi road

Armed Robbers have attacked a Yuntong bus with registration number GN 2507-10 at Tugu near Tamale and collected an amount of GHC35,500.00 including mobile phones and other items belonging to the passengers.

Mr Aminu Natogmah, the 35 year-old Driver of the bus, who briefed the GNA about the incident at Yendi, said upon reaching Tugu at about 03:00 hours, seven armed robbers stopped him and asked all the passengers to alight and surrender all their money and phones.

Mr Natogmah said the armed robbers, who were Fulanis, were armed with AK 47 with one holding a cutlass.

He said the 20 passengers, who were mostly butchers from Yendi, were returning from Kumasi where they sold their cattle.

He said none of the passengers was harmed as they obeyed all the orders of the armed robbers.

Mr Abdul Majeed Chendoo, Secretary of the Yendi Branch of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of Trades Union congress (TUC) appealed to managers of Yuntong buses travelling from Kumasi to Yendi to engage the services of the police to always escort their vehicles due to frequent armed robbery attacks on the roads.
